Check out a really good post by John Wright. These are my favorite kinds of posts that he does, where he brings together theology and culture via the church practicing compassion and justice. And not without a good prophetic perspective. Below is a quote from the post that I thought points to irony and the paradox of being the church in our culture. Let the tension sink in.
"Of course the check cashing store is deeply exploitative of the
neighborhood. The thought that it is possible to use the city and
police to support their unjust business by making our job more difficult
of distributing free food as ordered by Christ shows how hard it is to
negotiate through the political structures in which the church is
embedded.
